Description
Founded in 1984, it is one of the first wineries of the Designation of Origin and promoter in the process of formation and consolidation of the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin. Adegas Bouza do Rei has always been governed by the highest quality criteria throughout the production process and all without losing sight of its origins. Bouza do Rei is located in Ribadumía in the heart of the Salnés Valley, between the Rías de Arousa and Pontevedra, which is the largest coastal plain in Galicia. It is one of the most fertile lands and is considered the historical sub-area of Albariño, in addition to being the one with the flattest orography, in fact the vineyards are usually cultivated on small hills that rarely exceed 100 meters above sea level. The lands of the Rías Baixas wines are under the influence of the Atlantic climate, in the autumn and winter they are usually visited by warm fronts of tropical origin, which usually cause heavy rainfall with annual averages around 1300 mm. and mild temperatures. Spring is early and frost-free while summer is dry, although temperatures tend to remain mild due to the proximity of the sea and the mountain protections. In general, the soils are granitic and relatively sandy, rich in organic matter and slightly acidic, permeable and deep, except on the hills, they favor the growth of the grape with a pleasant aroma. Currently, Bodegas Bouza do Rei controls the production of more than 100 hectares of vineyards. Although the regulations of the Regulatory Council allow the use of other varieties, Adegas Bouza do Rei produces single-variety Albariño wine. The star grape of the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin is Albariño, exceptional for its great capacity to produce sugars (it can reach 13º of alcohol) and its richness in numerous aromatic and flavour components, something that provides wines with great finesse and elegance. The vines are grown in vineyards supported by granite posts made by stonemasons; it is about separating the strains from the ground to isolate them from humidity and excessive vegetation. In addition, vine cultivation favours insolation and facilitates care and harvest work. For the production of Bouza do Rei Gran Selección, those batches of grapes that met the best characteristics of maturation, grade, acidity and other parameters determined by the oenologist, were selected from among the best plots of vineyards with more than 20 years. Bouza do Rei Gran Selección is the extreme representation of quality, a selection and marked differentiation from the vine to the bottle.
