Description
Bernardo Estévez is a Galician winegrower from the Arnoia area who founded his winery in 2009 with the idea of making it a benchmark for new Galician wines that are committed to a work attached to the terroir with absolute respect for the natural environment and for the minimum intervention in the work in the winery. In the little more than 2 hectares of vineyard that they are working on, no type of chemical synthesis substance is used, neither for soil fertilization nor for the protection of the vines. To maintain the wealth and cover the nutritional needs of the vines and other plants, they work with the principle of self-fertilization, that is, all the material that is incorporated into the soil of the vineyards comes from the plot itself; the remains of pruning, plant covers and all this complemented with preparations of own-made plant extracts. For this specific work on the soil, the fundamentals of Natural Agriculture of Masanobu Fukuoka follow where everything revolves around the knowledge of the soil, everything that develops there and of course, its rhythms, also influenced by what surrounds us, such as planets, stars, stars and how their movements affect the behaviour of living beings. Biodynamic techniques and biodynamic preparations made in situ are used to protect the strains from diseases, working with very low doses of copper and sulfur, always complemented with plant extracts that are part of a parallel research and testing work carried out in Beatriz González (SLG technician), Andre Rodrigues Henriques (specialist in organic and biodynamic viticulture) and Bernardo Estévez himself. Chánselus Castes Brancas is an excellent white wine with aging made by Bernardo Estévez Winery and encompassed in the regulatory board Ribeiro Designation of Origin. The native grape varieties Treixadura, Lado, Loureira, Albilla, Godello, Silveiriña and Verdello are used in different percentages to make this wine. Bernardo Estévez works with a philosophy where the basis of the project is to elaborate the best product that the vineyard can give, hence most of his efforts are invested in the land and its knowledge, in the care of the vines with natural methods and in the recovery of autochthonous varieties forgotten for their low yield such as Lado, Silveiriña and Verdello, it also fuses the biodynamic principles with those of the natural agriculture of the Japanese Masanobu Fukuoka, with the clear objective of allowing the soil to speak, for nature to express itself with transparency in each of its wines.
