Description
In 1991 Adega Verao was founded, a family institution that produces just over 12,000 liters of wine a year, from the vineyard that gives its name to the wine it markets: Cividade. This farm is a rocky vineyard located in one of the steepest areas of the Sil canyon. Difficulties of access force the grape to be transported by boat, which means that its harvest is possibly the most photographed of all those that take place in the Ribeira Sacra. Due to the steepness of its location and the enormous slope of the terrain, the mechanization of the harvest is impossible. In the past, grapes were taken out in baskets that were carried on the shoulders; the journey was taking an hour and a half and they were stopping three times to rest. At present the grapes are harvested by boat, which continues to give it that character of artisanal and heroic viticulture that identifies them. Cividade is a delicious red wine with aging made by Adega Verao with the Mencia and Brancellao grape varieties within the protection of the regulatory board of Ribeira Sacra Designation of Origin. 90% of the grapes with which Adega Verao makes its wines come from its owned vineyards at the Cividade estate, located on the banks of the Sil River. Due to the enormous slope of the land, the mechanization of the harvest becomes impossible and the only way to transport the grapes is by boat. This artisan and heroic viticulture is what gives this wine an unmistakable character.
