Bodegas La Tapada, better known by Guitián, the name of the family that owns it, is a leading firm in the resurgence of the Godello grape in Valdeorras, a region that emulates the example of Rías Baixas, so it has become another focus of interest for all those Galicia wine lovers. The secret is undoubtedly in those 9 hectares of vineyard over 30 years that surround the winery. A splendid vineyard planted exclusively with Godello grapes that has been demonstrating for years the enormous possibilities of this grape variety, circumscribed today in the Ourense region of Valdeorras and that was about to disappear. Fortunately there were some winemakers, very few, who like the Guitián brothers, bet on it and did not let themselves be carried away by the easy thing, which would have been to resort to others of the most famous or fashionable grape varieties. Guitián Fermentado en Barrica is the most curious wine from Guitián, fermented in barrel and aged for 6 months, before being sold, the wine spends another 6 months in the bottle. The Godello grape gives it structure and unctuousness, making be very long in the mouth. There are clearly aromas of butter and lemon, along with the toasted and woods of the barrel that it makes this wine to maride perfectly with strong flavoured dishes. Guitián Fermentado en Barrica from 1996, it is truly extraordinary and with great worldwide recognition, as it has been recognized in the Challenge International du Vin in Bordeaux, one of the most important contests in the world, where among 4,822 wines, it has been distinguished with one of the 17 CIVART special prizes, being the only Spanish wine that has achieved it. With the following vintages, this outstanding white wine has remained at the same top levels of high quality.
