After more than 40 years of professional life as a senior executive of large American multinationals, Javier Vasallo decides to start his most personal project in the spring of 2010. His Galician origins and his passion for wine lead him to Leiro, in the river valley Avia, in the heart of Ribeiro, considered by many “The Golden Mile”. There he buys a magnificent A Fervenza estate with seven socalcos or terraces and south facing. The property has a nearly 200-year-old mill in full operation and a small waterfall (Fervenza in Galician), which gives the farm its name. The vine has been cultivated in these lands for hundreds of years giving international fame to the Ribeiro wines. At the beginning of 2011, native strains of the Treixadura, Loureira, Albariño and Godello varieties were planted, replacing the old Palomino and Garnacha varieties. Subsequently, the Eira do Mouro, Rubial, Os Casares and A Grova farms are added, all of them centenary vineyards facing south where the aforementioned varieties are replanted. At present, the property has 1.8 hectares of vineyards of the highest quality. Xulia, born and raised among the Ribeiro vineyards, is in charge with her team of caring for and controlling their farms with the utmost respect for the environment and with the aim of obtaining the best grapes in the area. In September 2014, they had their first harvest, just 500 kilos, which they dedicated to experimenting. They fermented in a stainless steel tank and later matured the wine with its fine lees in a 300-liter French oak barrel for 6 months, in May they bottled 371 bottles. The result was an exquisite wine enjoyed by the project team, their family and friends. The first vintage they marketed was that of 2015, which was released at the beginning of the summer of 2016. Javier Vasallo is a sensational aged white wine made with Treixadura, Albariño, Godello and Lado grape varieties by Javier Vasallo Winery within the protection of the regulatory board of Ribeiro Designation of Origin. Its viticulture is respectful with the environment and of sustainable production. The oenological processes used in its elaboration have been suitable to respect the varietal typicity. Javier Vasallo wine maintains the balance of the primary fruit aromas of the autochthonous varieties of its origin and the tertiary spicy aromas, provided by a subtle wood, transmit the flavor and essence of this land. Javier Vasallo wine has an annual production of approximately 3,500 bottles.
