Description
Bodegas Cunqueiro is located within the parish of Castrelo de Miño (Ourense), it was officially established as a mercantile company, in 1985 and since then it has been increasing and modernizing its facilities until today, with the clear objective of producing and bottling wines of top quality and position itself in the main markets of the world, without losing the family spirit that characterizes it. The history of this winery begins in the 1920s when Don Severino Fernández “O Cunqueiro”, renowned viticulturist in the area, made wines in a traditional way to supply numerous taverns in the city of Ourense, where he forged his fame elaborating great quality wines. In the 1960s and due to the emigration from rural areas to cities, Don Severino´s wine began to be known and appreciated also in large Galician cities such as A Coruña, Santiago de Compostela and Vigo. In the 80s the brothers Cesáreo and Benigno Fernández, sons of Don Severino, took over the winery, strengthening their presence in Galicia and making their way in the national and international market. The expansion and technological improvement of the facilities, as well as the preparation of one of the first Treixadura single-varietals that were commercialized in Galicia under the umbrella of the Ribeiro D.O, and the only single-varietal Torrontés that is made in our lands, meant the definitive consecration of Cunqueiro Wineries as a benchmark in the production of premium wines. Máis de Cunqueiro Torrontés is a unique and surprising white wine made by Bodegas Cunqueiro with 100% Torrontés grapes under the protection of the regulatory board of Ribeiro Denomination of Origin. It represents the definitive consecration of the Torrontés variety as one of the best and most versatile white varieties from Ribeiro. The grapes with which this wine is made come from his estate “A Erbedeira”, where land and climate confer unique characteristics to this variety, carefully selecting the best bunches. Cryomaceration with dry ice and subsequent aging on its own lees for two to four months, give it smoothness and volume on the palate.
