Description
Pago de los Abuelos was born from the concern of the Leonese winemaker Nacho Álvarez to honor his grandparents. After having passed through different wineries, in 2018 he decided to create his own project recovering forgotten plots and vineyards, as well as historical varieties from the Bierzo area such as Godello or Mencía. It is a tribute to all those grandparents who worked and preserved the vines that he can work now. History tells us that long ago these lands were very important for the history of oenology, they are areas that were very important for the Romans, where they cannot hide or forget their mining and agricultural work on the slopes of “Las Medulas” (considered the largest open-pit gold mine in the entire Roman Empire) where vine and chestnut are still commerced today. San Pedro de Trones, Puente de Domingo Flórez and San Juan de Paluezas.
