Pagos del Galir Mencia is an excellent red wine with aging made by Virgen del Galir Winery with 100% Mencía grapes within the protection of the regulatory board of Valdeorras Designation of Origin. This wine is made with a selection of grapes from vineyards located in different plots in the municipality of Entoma, such as Valdemioto, Soutiño and O Follo. Manual harvest in boxes of 15 kgs. Maceration of the grapes in boxes in a refrigerator and in storage 48 hours prior to alcoholic fermentation. Destemmed and not crushed from the grape to favor the primary aromas. Fermentation with native yeast.
Appearance: Cherry red colour and middle layer.
Bouquet: Frank nose, where the red and light toasted fruits of the wood predominate.
Palate: The palate is fresh and lively.
Virgen del Galir Winery was founded in 2002 by José Barros García and his son David, in a valley of the Galir River, in Éntoma, a small town in Orense, Galicia. Located on the Camino de Santiago, it belongs to the Valdeorras Denomination of Origin. This almost forgotten region has some extraordinary vineyards. Virgen del Galir is supplied from its 20 hectares of vineyards, almost the same number of plots. Slate floors and decomposed granite in terraced land. The climate is continental with an Atlantic influence with a rainfall of 700 to 1000 mm per year, depending on the areas. Winters are cold and summers quite warm.
