Description
Manuel Formigo responds to the traditional figure in the Ribeiro called “colleiteiro” that it refers and describes the figure of a small winemaker which is characterized by producing up to a maximum of 60,000 liters of wine per year, only with homegrown grapes. Manuel Formigo is a “colleiteiro” who lived viticulture since he was a child, his father was already a “colleiteiro” and was a founding partner of “Señorío de Beade”. But his son Manuel wanted to start from scratch, with his own ideas. He studied oenology at the University of Rovira, in Tarragona, where he graduated in 2004. He did an internship in prestigious wineries such as Domaine Chevalier in Pessac-Leognan (Bordeaux) and Finca Allende in La Rioja to return in 2005 and make his own first vintage in 2006. Currently it has 4.5 hectares distributed in 6 different vineyards, Miñoteira, Portela, Os Pousos, Pereiro, Barbaña and As Barcas, all in the municipality of Beade, with vines between 6 and 60 years old. The winery is located on the ground floor of the old family home. Built with a double wall of stone that is more than two hundred years old, the winery has seen quality wines made for many years, using traditional techniques, passed from generation to generation. After a time when only It was used as a storage area, its owners have completely renovated it, maintaining its original stone structure to be able to produce high quality wines, using the most appropriate oenological techniques for each type of wine. On the banks of the Avia River, Atlantic and Mediterranean typologies interact, forming bands in which wet influences and dry periods follow each other, allowing enviable ripening rhythms that allow the vineyard to express its best quality potential. On the other hand, the multiple orientations that draw the complicated orography make up a complex mosaic of microclimatic pockets of marked diversity. Teira X is made with selected 40-year-old Treixadura vines together with the Alvilla, Albariño and Loureira varieties, all planted on his 2.5-hectare Miñoteira estate. Teira X is a complex, intense, fresh wine, with marked citrus and mineral notes.
