Description
Pittacum Vineyards and Wineries started its career in 1999 with a clear idea: to create wines with personality that carry the stamp of unique wines, without renouncing to the character that the Mencía variety provides, the zone or the climate. Personality, regularity and quality are the three key words that define the commitment of Pittacum Vineyards and Wineries, also the productivity and age of the vineyard are decisive factors to achieve it. Five hectares of excellent old vines, for the elaboration of the Pittacum they look for the best grapes around the different zones of the Bierzo, to which they carry out, as in their vineyards, a complete monitoring throughout the year. They choose only old vines from 50 to 110 years of age, located in poor soils and with adequate production. The quality of a great wine inevitably corresponds to an excellent raw material. The different places of origin in terms of soil, slopes, orientations and microclimates allow them to obtain grapes with very different characteristics. Each one of them is vinified separately, to finally proceed to the mixture in the percentages that are considered adequate. The knowledge and experience in the viticulture of the region feeds the winery only of the best grape for the best wine. The harvest is done in small boxes of 12 kilos. In the winery, a selection table is used before introducing the grapes into 20-hectoliter vats, where it ferments for 20 days at a controlled temperature and with light punching to make a slight extraction. The wine is aged for 12 months in barrels a year old so that it does not lose its light and fruity character. Val de la Loba is an aged red wine made by Pittacum Vineyards and Wineries in the town of Arganza within the protection of the regulatory board of Bierzo Designation of Origin. Val de la Loba was born from an old vineyard, in a land where Mencia grape has been cultivated for centuries. It is a young red wine, lighter and with less bulk than others of the wines made by Pittacum Vineyards and Wineries. Val de la Loba is ideal for those who seek a lot of freshness and a lighter Mencía profile.
