Wine growing, which already had a deep-rooted tradition in their family, came to occupy their professional endeavours in the early 1990s. In this way, they began a career of authentic dedication and care to achieve the best wines that their lands produce. Knowing that the Albariño grape is one of the most complexes, perhaps the one that offers the greatest properties to produce high-quality white wines, they set out for what today has become a passion for Albariño. At first they looked for their best vineyards to make the best possible wine, the most personal and differentiated. Today they can say that their plantations are located on an exceptional farm, oriented and spread out on terraces that govern the natural orography and that host already adult vines and of optimal altitude. After a decade in which they have dedicated themselves exclusively to the cultivation and care of this estate, their vines reached the right age to make one of the best wines. In 2002, with 25-year-old vines, they made the first vintage of their Albariño Valtea, a wine that today has become one of the maximum references of the Rías Baixas, but also one of the great ambassadors of the Rias baixas D.O. In a privileged location, in the Miño valleys, and equidistant from Vigo and Ourense 30 minutes away, Adegas Valtea is located in an area with a special microclimate that makes the grapes reach the degree of maturity necessary for the production of wines whose quality does not generate doubt. The care with which the old vines of the plantation are cared for, and that in some way limit production, is complemented by the technology and art of production in the winery, where the selection of vines and grapes is a first step to achieve supreme quality. Almost all of the vines used to make its wines come from the property’s vineyards, it is about 150,000 m2 of Adegas Valtea and another 70,000 m2 leased whose soils are used entirely for Albariño grapes. Its vineyards are arranged in extensive steps or balconies hanging in the Miño basin, facing Portugal, with a North-South orientation and irregular terrain, with a slight slope. Valtea Albariño is a spectacular white wine aged on lees made by Adegas Valtea with 100% Albariño grapes under the protection of the regulatory board of Rias Baixas Designation of Origin. For the elaboration of this wine they use selected grapes from the oldest vines on the estate, which are more than 25 years old. The grape must obtained from the first draining process is fermented at a low temperature and remains in a tank on the lees for 6 months, applying the batonage technique. The wine is made on the land; the wine is made by the vine… These are two metaphors that have become the great philosophical principles that govern its winemaking practice.
