Description
In 2000, a group of winegrowers dreamed of what is now Viña Almirante, a winery made up of 80 partners and families who live by and for wine. They were inspired by the historical past of Portas (Galicia) and the legacy of the geographer Domingo Fontán, an illustrious ancestor of the region who allowed them to understand that from emotional cartography he could make blatantly personal wines. They are located in A Peroxa (Portas), in the Umia valley, on the banks of the Chaín River. This is an enclave with its own geographical and meteorological conditions that largely mark the character of its vineyards. They also have a small percentage of vineyards in the heart of the Val do Salnés, a reality that allows them to work with many possibilities to be able to vinify very personal wines. They do not have a magic formula like that brand you are thinking of, just work, exploration, analysis, and trust in the 45 hectares of vineyards that they have throughout the region. Every year is an adventure, a challenge full of uncertainty, effort and guarantee; that no two crops are the same, and that inspires them. Portas, is synonymous with history, origin and culture. In the 12th century, history reveals that King Ferdinand II of León donated to the Cistercian monks the first known Albariño plantation, the ‘Paradisus’ estate, in Santa María de Portas. Viña Almirante is the flagship wine of the winery, an elegant wine, with a fruity, fresh and delicate character. Each year they collect the grapes late, risking, and giving the vineyard time to give the grapes its maximum expression. The selection in the vineyard is pure craftsmanship, a careful process that culminates in a cold pellicular maceration process in the winery.
