Appearance: Golden yellow colour, very clean and bright.
Bouquet: On the nose the granite of its soils is reflected, providing minerality. Very expressive and complex with floral and white fruit notes.
Palate: The minerality that we see on the nose reappears in the mouth. It is a fresh and elegant Albariño with a very good acidity and citric and salty touches.
Description
Zárate is a family vineyard property nestled in an old 15th century Pazo located in Meaño, in the Salnés Valley, within the Rias Baixas Designation of Origin, in the heart of Galicia. The Zárate family has been caring for and protecting their own vineyards for 7 generations, many of them centuries old. There are more than 400 years of history and tradition attached to a land that is expressed through its wines. The Zárate tradition begins in 1707 with Diego Zárate y Murga, First Marquis of Montesacro by Decree of Felipe V. Today the family continues to run the family vineyards, many of them centenary, with which they make natural wines, faithful to the land and to Galicia. Since the middle of the 20th century, Zárate has been a pioneer in the production of Albariño wine as it is known today. Proposals that seek to remove it from family consumption and make its character known, first in Spain and then throughout the world. Ernesto Zárate was the founder of the Cambados Albariño Festival, a contest that he would win in his first three years consecutively. Since 2000, Eulogio Pomares has been its winemaker. With it would come new techniques based on maximum respect for the environment and completely natural vineyard care processes. The property currently cultivates 6.54 hectares that are divided into 11 estates in the parishes of Sisán and Padrenda. These two parishes in the Salnés Valley are renowned for their poor and sunny lands and are considered the birthplace of Albariño. The average age of the vineyard is about 30 years. On the oldest vines they carry out a carefull selection with which they carry out the new plantations. Annually they also carry out replanting in those plots where it is necessary. In the care of the vineyard they carry out a viticulture that is respectful with the environment. Since 1994 all our plots have been in No-Tillage with permanent natural cover and no herbicides are used or fertilizers are made with chemically synthesized nutrients. In the 2006 campaign they have obtained the certification for their Integrated Production harvest. Zárate Tras Da Viña is a spectacular white wine with aging made entirely with 100% Albariño grapes by Bodegas Zárate within the regulatory board of the Rias Baixas Designation of Origin. The grapes with which this wine is made come from the 0.6-hectare plot Tras Da Viña, which was replanted in 1965 with vines of the Albariño variety from the emblematic El Palomar de Zárate estate. The interpretation of this vineyard by Eulogio Pomares results in an Albariño with character, complex, with the capacity to age well and a gastronomic versatility as few wines offer.
